‘Wednesday’ Season 2: Everything We Know So Far, from the Cast to the Plot

On January 6, 2023, Netflix announced that Wednesday season two is officially in the works.

We imagine that countless fans did the viral Wednesday dance in celebration of the news, which was announced in a one-minute video on YouTube. Narrated by Wednesday herself, the clip highlights a few of her most memorable moments from season one before revealing that the series "will return."

Shortly after the renewal announcement, Wednesday show creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar released an official statement.

“It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world,” Gough and Millar said, according to Variety. “Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”

It’s no surprise that the streaming service renewed Wednesday for another season, given how the series broke major streaming records within just a few weeks—even surpassing Stranger Things 4. But now, we're curious to know: Which characters will return? And is there a release date? Here's what we know about season two.

1. What Will Wednesday Season 2 Be About?

The first season follows quick-witted and slightly terrifying Wednesday Addams (played by Jenna Ortega), who transfers to Nevermore Academy and discovers a string of mysterious killings have been happening on campus. One of the show's creators, Miles Millar, hinted that season two will explore Wednesday and Morticia's relationship a bit more.

He told TV Line, "We felt like we just touched the surface with those characters and the actors are so amazing in those roles. Catherine is, I think, an iconic Morticia. The relationship between Wednesday and Morticia is also essential to the show, and the idea that Wednesday is trying to forge her own path outside the family is so important."

Millar also noted that while he wants to focus on Wednesday's character, he still wants to incorporate the family. He added, “We definitely want to feature the family as we did this season in a couple of episodes if we were to get a second season.”

Jenna Ortega, who plays Wednesday, also shared that she wants her character's story arc to take a darker turn in season two. She told Entertainment Tonight, "I kind of want her to be darker. I want her to get more in the nitty-gritty of things and not play things so safe, because there are a lot of lines about her saving the school and doing whatever, but for me, her main drive with the monster is of a competitiveness. Kind of, 'Man, how's this guy doing this?' I think I want it to continue down an antihero stream rather than a typical hero."

2. Who Is in the Cast of Wednesday Season 2?

In addition to Ortega, the rest of the Addams family are expected to return, including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez and Fred Armisen. Gwendoline Christie, Jamie McShane and Christina Ricci also play major roles, so it's likely that they'll make a comeback.

Casting hasn't been confirmed, but fans may also see Emma Myers, Percy Hynes White,  Joy Sunday and Jamie McShane return.

3. Is There a Trailer for Wednesday Season 2?

Netflix hasn't released a trailer yet. But to hold fans over, the streaming service dropped a short special that features Ortega, Myers, Sunday and Hunter Doohan discussing the wildest season two theories—like Wednesday becoming the new Hyde master.

4. Is There a Release Date for Wednesday Season 2?

A release date hasn't been announced for the second season, but we do know that it's in the earlier stages of production. If it follows a similar timeline to season one, which dropped the first trailer five months after wrapping up filming, it will likely debut the first teaser sometime in 2024.

5. Has Wednesday Season 3 Been Confirmed?

There's no word yet on whether season three is a go, but Millar is already thinking ahead to season three and beyond. He told Variety, "For us, it’s always looking at the future, and when we sit down to create a show, it’s looking at multiple seasons, ideally," he told the outlet. "That’s never expected, but that’s the anticipation that hopefully the show is successful. So you always lay out at least three or four seasons’ worth of potential storylines for the characters."

Sounds like we'll be seeing plenty more of Wednesday after season two.
