As I type, I’m nearing the end of my second trimester with my second baby—a boy—due in October. At the start of my pregnancy, I felt naively excited about summer maternity fashion. With my first, I was super-pregnant in the winter months, which meant my style was basically bulky sweaters and leggings…kind of boring. Summer pregnancy attire sounded more billowy, lightweight and freeing. But as it turns out, it’s proven remarkably hard to find comfy maternity wear that I can throw on when temps hit the low 100s (um, yes, that’s how hot the “real feel” was in Brooklyn this week).
That is, until I started shopping for non-maternity styles. Love it or hate it, summer looks for even non-pregnant women have gotten pretty belly-friendly in recent years…and I’m here for it. In other words, I’m looking for comfort, practicality and dresses that don’t hug my figure, but instead prioritize breathability through silhouette, fabric or design.
Here are the three I’ve been living in this summer.
