Grab your true-crime podcast buddy because Only Murders in the Building is returning for season four. And while you’re at it, pack a bag (or two) because our favorite podcast trio is heading to Hollywood.

Last year, Hulu confirmed that the Only Murders in the Building podcast crew will return to the small screen for another installment. Recently, the streaming service confirmed that the new episodes will feature O.G. cast members, like Selena Gomez, Martin Short and Steve Martin, returning cast members, like Meryl Streep, and newcomers, like Molly Shannon, Eugene Levy and Eva Longoria. And if that weren’t enough, the streaming service just released the first teaser for the upcoming season, which features another new face in the ensemble cast (more on that later).

1. Is Only Murders in the Building Returning for Season Four?

Shortly after the season three finale hit Hulu, the streaming service revealed that Only Murders in the Building is returning for season four. The news was shared on the official OMITB Instagram account and included a photo of Charles, Oliver and Mabel standing in front of a large text banner that read, “Only Murders in the Building Season 4.”

Only Murders in the Building is coming back for Season 4!” the caption read. “Let the investigating begin... [three detective emojis] #OMITB.”

The renewal announcement wasn’t a huge surprise based on the show’s success. According to Deadline, the season three premiere of Only Murders in the Building had the most viewers of any scripted Hulu Original released in 2023. Longtime fans were also treated to a season filled with big-name guest stars, such as Meryl Streep, Paul Rudd and Jesse Williams.

2. Who Will Return For the Season Four Cast?

The main trio will reprise their roles in Only Murders in the Building season four, including Steve Martin (Charles), Martin Short (Oliver) and Selena Gomez (Mabel). Deadline also confirmed that Meryl Streep (Loretta) will return for season four.

Jane Lynch (Sazz) is also expected to return, despite the events in the season three finale. Her character will most likely appear in flashbacks, similar to Rudd (Ben). Other potential returnees include Williams (Tobert), Gerald Caesar (Ty) and Don Darryl Rivera (Bobo).

After watching the teaser for Only Murders in the Building season two, I can confirm that Michael Cyril Creighton will also return for the upcoming installment. Nakeisha Campbell (PureWow’s Associate Editor of News and Entertainment) caught up with the actor at the 2024 Writers Guild Awards and had a chance to discuss season four.

When asked about what fans can expect, Creighton said, “We have a whole new mystery that even I don't know the ending of yet, which is exciting. We have a lot of surprises in store. There's more casting to be announced. It's just an incredible ride, and I think the mystery is really, really strong this season.”

While sharing that this season’s guest star appearances will be “vibrant” and “exciting,” Creighton revealed, “It's incredibly pleasant because the trio Steve [Martin], Martin [Short] and Selena [Gomez] have such a welcoming energy to everybody that walks on that set, be it someone who has one line or someone who has a thousand lines. They set the tone, so everybody is just really happy to be there.”

3. What About Newcomers?

According to Deadline, Molly Shannon will join the cast of Only Murders in the Building season four. Unfortunately, Hulu hasn't revealed many details about her involvement. Per the outlet,  Charles, Oliver and Mabel will travel to Los Angeles in the beginning of the season, where they meet Shannon. She will reportedly play a businesswoman who gets involved in the murder investigation.

But Shannon won’t be the only new cast member in the upcoming installment. According to DeadlineEugene Levy and Eva Longoria are also joining Only Murders in the Building season four.

In other news, the newly released teaser for Only Murders in the Building season two revealed that a new cast member will be joining the mystery: Melissa McCarthy. The Identity Thief alum will make a guest appearance in season four. As for what role she will play in the mystery? I don’t know that yet, but when I find out, you’ll be the first to know.

4. Is There a Trailer?

On May 14, Hulu released a new teaser for Only Murder in the Building season two. Though the clip was rather short, OMITB fans (like myself) were able to get a sneak peek of what’s to come in the upcoming installment. Based on the teaser, it appears that Charles, Oliver and Mabel are leaving the Big Apple to head to Los Angeles, where a Hollywood studio wants to turn their popular podcast into a movie. But Sazz’s murder still looms over their heads.

As Charles, Oliver and Mabel attempt to uncover the identity of the killer, they will meet a bunch of new people along the way. In the middle of the teaser, members of the main cast as well as newcomers flash across the screen. And that’s when viewers are introduced to the latest addition of the Only Murders in the Building crew: Melissa McCarthy. The Unfrosted star will make a guest star appearance in the new season, along with Shannon, Levy and Longoria.

5. What Is Only Murders in the Building About?

Only Murders in the Building centers around three true-crime podcast lovers who investigate murders in their apartment complex. In the third season, the lead actor in Oliver’s stage production suddenly turns up dead, and the gang comes together to solve another murder mystery.

In the season three finale, Sazz becomes the latest victim. The episode concludes with Sazz getting shot through a window and bleeding out on the ground. She uses her blood to write something on the floor as the screen fades to black.

Guess it’s time to put on our detective hat one more time.
