It’s been more than two years since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced that they were stepping back from their roles as senior royals. Since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex no longer receive money from the family's funding mechanism that supports their work and official residences, I couldn’t help but wonder about Meghan Markle’s net worth (which is now $60 million combined with her husband's) both before and after her marriage. From her acting career to her lucrative partnerships, read on for a complete breakdown of the duchess’s finances.

1. What Is Meghan Markle’s Net Worth?

Her current solo value is unknown because her finances have merged with that of Prince Harry. But according to Celebrity Net Worth, the royal couple have a combined net worth of $60 million—thanks in part to their lucrative Netflix and Spotify deals.

2. What Was Meghan Markle's Net Worth Before She Married Harry?

Prior to marrying Prince Harry, Markle’s net worth was $5 million, per Celebrity Net Worth. This comes as no surprise, since Markle had already established a successful acting career before meeting her husband. Her credits include Suits, Horrible Bosses, Dater's Handbook and Anti-Social.

3. What Did She Make on Suits?

Markle's most high-profile role to date was playing Rachel Zane on the TV show Suits (she remains close with the cast to this day), but she also appeared on other popular shows, such as CSI: Miami and 90210.

According to knownetworth.com, she made more than $50,000 per episode on Suits, and her annual salary was "around $450,000, which also included around $80,000 worth of annual sponsorship/endorsements income." The site also reported that she was paid $187,000 for appearing in the film Remember Me and $171,429 for The Candidate, which were both released in 2010.

4. What Did She Make on Deal or No Deal?

Markle made multiple appearances as a model on Deal Or No Deal. In each episode, she held a suitcase and waited to be chosen by the contestants as they guessed which suitcase held the most money. According to Express, she was paid $800 per episode.

5. What Did She Make From Her Blog and Social Media?

Before she deleted her social media accounts, Markle used different platforms as another source of income, though the exact amount is unknown. She had a lifestyle website called The Tig, which she shut down in April 2017. That same month, she ended her partnership with the Canadian retailer Reitmans, for which she had released two clothing collections. And of course, there was Instagram. The duchess even dabbled in some sponsored content and endorsements back in her day.

Now, the duchess has launched a new lifestyle brand, American Riviera. Her income from the endeavor remains to be seen, but things are currently in motion, with Markle's celeb friends already receiving American Riviera jams in the mail.

6. Did She Inherit Money From the Markle Family?

Different from many other actors and actresses in Hollywood, Markle does not come from an overly wealthy family. Her father was a soap opera lighting director who now lives a low-key lifestyle in Mexico, and her mother is a social worker.

However, Markle “spent time on film sets as a child because her father Thomas was a lighting director on the series Married with Children and General Hospital,” reports UK Express. So, I'm not surprised she ended up in the industry herself.

7. How Much Did Markle Receive Through the Royal Family?

Although the Duke and Duchess did not earn a specific paycheck as working members of the royal family, they received annual allowances to help them to carry out their duties. In fact, the old version of their official website includes a full breakdown of how the system worked.

The funding page reads, "Since the establishment of The Office of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, 95 percent of the funding received for their Office expenditure is derived from income allocated by HRH The Prince of Wales, generated through the Duchy of Cornwall. This provision has been in place since Prince William and Prince Harry first established their offices in support of The Queen, and is the responsibility of The Prince of Wales."

It continues, "The remaining five percent of funding for the Office of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, covering costs associated with employing members of their official office, is received through the Sovereign Grant."

8. What Did Meghan Markle Make From Her Netflix Deal?

Per Forbes, in September 2020, Markle and her husband signed a five-year, $100 million contract with Netflix to produce documentaries, films, scripted shows and children’s programs. So far, they've delivered two docuseries, including Live to Lead and Harry and Meghan.

Markle also had plans to release her animated children's series, Pearl, which she created through her and Harry's production company, Archewell Productions. However, Netflix dropped the series before it premiered.

9. How Much Did She Make From Her Spotify Deal?

In December 2020, Markle and Harry landed a three-year podcasting deal with Spotify worth approximately $20 million. Meghan launched her 12-episode podcast, Achetypes, in 2022, and her guests included famous names like Serena Williams, Mariah Carey and Issa Rae. However, she then cut ties with the platform after just one season.

Per The Wall Street Journal, she and Prince Harry didn't receive the full $20 million payout from their deal. However, the Duchess of Sussex recently signed a huge deal with an American-based podcast network called Lemonada Media and she’s currently working on a brand-new podcast series.

10. What About Her Children's Book?

In June 2021, the duchess published a picture book called The Bench, which was inspired by a poem that she wrote for her husband, Prince Harry. As it turns out, the book includes a special nod to his late mother, Princess Diana.

“I think you can find sweet little moments that we've tucked in there, from my favorite flower, even my husband's mum's favorite flower, forget-me-nots, we wanted to make sure they were included in there,” Markle said, according to People. “There's a lot of special detail and love that went into that book.”

Critics have praised the book's illustrations and positive messaging, but unfortunately, her earnings are unknown. (I’ll let your imagination do the rest.)

11. What Is Prince Harry’s Net Worth?

While Markle brought her own wealth into the marriage, Prince Harry brought the bulk. At the time, the duke’s net worth was seemingly somewhere between $25 and $40 million, a tiny piece of what Forbes reports is the royal family’s $88 billion net worth.

Harry's fortune is comprised of income from public funding through the Sovereign Grant (which they no longer accept), funds left in trust to him by his mother, Princess Diana, an inheritance from the Queen Mother, his former salary as a captain in the British Army and money earned through the Duchy of Cornwall.
