I've always had a love-hate relationship with fitness trackers. On the one hand, I love that they're designed to help keep you more in tune with your health and well-being, but on the other hand, I *hate* the way they look. So, while I won't be caught dead in an Apple Watch, I've been a bit more receptive to wearing the new Samsung Galaxy ring ($400), which is finally available for purchase, and that's saying something. It may not be the first of its kind (hello, Oura ring), but its elegant design and in-depth health insights enhanced by Galaxy AI really make it stand out, IMO. I was able to get early access to the wearable device after attending the 2024 Galaxy Unpacked event, and after wearing the lightweight accessory for two weeks straight, I have some thoughts.

The Samsung Galaxy ring combines fashion and fitness tracking at its finest. First, I'll talk about its super sleek aesthetic, which had me sold immediately: The accessory is crafted from titanium in *three* scratch-resistant finishes (black, gold and silver), so it should stay in tip-top shape for years to come. I chose it in the black finish, which effortlessly blends in with all my outfits. Meanwhile, it has three sensors that track your every motion, skin temperature and heart beat, so you always have insight into your heart rate, activity level and sleep quality (including how much you snore) in the Samsung Health app.

Like the Oura ring (which I've been using for over two years), you'll have the option to receive a sizing kit in the mail, which will help you determine the best fit on your desired finger. I wore mine on my middle finger (where I usually wear my Oura ring), and I must admit, it felt boxier. This didn't surprise me, though, since the Samsung Galaxy ring looks thinner and lighter next to the Oura. Still, it provides you with an Energy score every dang day, enhanced with Galaxy AI. Wondering how the Energy score is calculated? It's based on your physical readiness from your sleep the night before and your heart rate and activities. The goal is to use your Energy score to find ways to improve your overall health and fitness.

Unlike the Oura ring, access to the Galaxy ring's health data is not dependent on a subscription—so once you purchase it, there should be no extra costs. But while that serves as a nice bonus, there is a catch: Samsung's smart ring is only compatible with Andriod devices running Android 11.0 or above, and has no functionality with Apple products—you can't even download an app to connect it to your iPhone. That may be a dealbreaker for those embedded in the Apple ecosystem, but if you're not fazed by it, keep reading.

Samsung Galaxy Ring's Best Health Features

If you ask me, the Samsung Galaxy ring has three major health features that make it one of the best wearable devices you can buy today. From sleep analysis to heart rate monitoring and fitness and cycle tracking, it provides deeper insights into your well-being, so you can take more control of your health. Here's what I discovered while testing each of them.

1. Sleep Analysis

Considerably one of the biggest health features, the Samsung Galaxy ring tracks everything from your sleep timing to your skin temperature and how often you wake up in the middle of the night. In other words, if you've ever wanted to learn about your sleep pattern, you finally can. The best part is that when you wake up in the morning, you can check your Energy score to determine whether you're in for a rough or active day. For instance, in my video, you can see I scored 40 out of 100 because I didn't get enough sleep, which let me know that I needed to take it easy and go to bed early. Yes, that's right. You won't just get an inside look at yesterday's sleep—you'll also get personalized tips and suggestions to help you improve your sleep over time. And the more you wear the ring, the more it learns your body.

2. Heart Rate Monitoring

Thanks to heart rate tracking, you can monitor your heart health in real time. Even better, if the device detects a high or low heart rate, you will receive an alert on your phone so you can get ahead of a potential problem. Not to mention, the ring's sensors analyze your heart rate and temperature changes to detect stress throughout the day. Like, are you more anxious at work? Do you panic around certain people? You'll find out in no time with this ingenious accessory. As for me, I learned that I'm more stressed in the morning and afternoon.

3. Fitness and Cycle Tracking

For all my active peeps, you'll love the Samsung Galaxy Ring's ability to track your steps, workout history and eating habits. And everyone will appreciate receiving notifications to help them get moving every hour. And if you do decide to hop on a treadmill or go for a run, the ring will automatically pick up on your activity to help you get the most accurate Energy score. (My ring picked up everything from my walks to the grocery store to my solo dance sessions and Peloton rides!) And gone are the days of having a separate app for cycle tracking. You can log your period in the Samsung Health app, and it will give you a prediction date for your next one, your predicted fertile window and predicated ovulation period. I have a feeling this will be a game-changer when it comes to booking vacations and family planning.

Bottom Line: Who Should and Shouldn't Buy It?

After wearing the Samsung Galaxy ring for two weeks while working from home, attending pool parties and keeping up with my cardio routine, I can say one thing for sure: This wearable wellness tracker is guaranteed to help you reclaim your health and fitness in style. However, I must admit that the Oura ring offers just a bit more insight into your well-being (like more in-depth cycle tracking and physical resilience insights). Even so, I've been really impressed with what this bad boy has to offer.

So, who should buy it? To put it simply, anyone who wants to get the most bang for their buck and prefers a lightweight design should buy the Samsung Galaxy ring. Unlike the Oura ring (from $299), which requires a $5.99 per month membership, the Samsung Galaxy ring supplies your data with no further payments required. So once you buy the Galaxy ring, you can take advantage of all the health and fitness features right off the bat. But, guys, to reiterate, the Samsung Galaxy ring is only compatible with smartphones running Android 11 or higher at the moment, which leads me to who *shouldn't* buy it.

If you don't already own a Samsung phone or you're not looking to upgrade anytime soon, I don't think it's worth buying a new phone (unless it's the brand's newest Galaxy Z Fold6) just to experience the ring. At $400, it's not cheap, though it is a worthwhile investment into your health. I'll leave it to you to decide what's best for you, but wearing it has made me look *and* feel like a million bucks, and I think it's way chicer than a clunky smart watch.
