Have fans seen the last of Ryan Gosling as Ken in the Barbie universe?

In a new interview with 60 Minutes, Barbie writer and director Greta Gerwig and her husband, Noah Baumbach, sat down to discuss the Barbie movie, which was the highest-grossing movie of 2023. At one point during the convo, the 41-year-old filmmaker was asked if she’s ever considered marking a follow-up film that centers on just Ken, who was played by Ryan Gosling in the Barbie movie.

Though she couldn’t comment on the possibility of a Ken sequel, she didn’t shut down the idea completely, saying with a smile, “I mean, the truth is, you know—I guess we'll see.”

During the interview, Gerwig and Baumbach explained how they couldn’t imagine anyone else but The Notebook alum playing the role of Ken. “We had way too much material for Ken. We would write, and write, and write,” Gerwig revealed. Then, Baumbach interrupted and told Gerwig not to “give it away.” Hmm, interesting (*strokes imaginary beard*).

Earlier this year, Gosling shared his first impression of Ken when he sat down and read the script. The Barbie actor told W Magazine, “It was the title page of the script, which said ‘Barbie and Ken,’ but ‘and Ken’ was scratched out. And the next impression was, ‘This is the hardest part I’ll ever play.’ How do you approach playing a 70-year-old crotchless doll?”

He added, “There’s no research you can do for that. There’s no one you can shadow, no documentaries you can watch, no books written about Ken. You’re on your own.”

Greta, if you’re out there listening, please give us a Ken movie.
