The Artizia Effortless Pant has millions of views on TikTok, which is a lot for something that’s not political, Brat-related or both. These days, fashion trends don’t usually include simple, relatively affordable (less than $150 per pair) basics like these pants, instead skewing toward the ultra-timely (Wimbledon tenniscore), ultra-comfy (joggers FTW) or anything worn by Taylor Swift or a member of the royal family. Even the Wall Street Journal has written about the style, terming it a “corporate fad” for the way the Effortless Pant has devotees buying them in multiples and loving their “go with everything” style. I was skeptical about all the hullabaloo over this design, which is basically what my mom used to call “a nice pair of slacks” with a traditional waistband, zipper, pleated front and pockets. Even though I’ve written about my love for the Aritzia Effortless Pant trouser shorts before, I wanted a thorough review from long-pants wearers, so I asked three staffers—including a petite wearer, a frequent traveler and PureWow’s fashion editor—to rate the garment on fit, comfort, versatility, washability and style. They put their pants on one leg at a time, just like you and me, so you can trust them.

“These pants just kept popping up on my Instagram feed over and over again and finally I just had to go to the store to try them on and see what the hype was about. I tried on both the classic crepette and the linen versions and ultimately decided to buy the linen because I thought it would be more versatile. The material is a bit thicker than other linen pieces I own, which means they're still incredibly breathable and comfy but don't wrinkle nearly as much. I'm usually between sizes 8 and 10 for pants and, as with most Aritzia pieces, ended up going for the larger size. In fact, I also tried on a satin version of the pants and felt a 12 would honestly be even more comfortable than a 10. Another thing to note about Aritzia sizing is that I find its pants almost always run long, which, at 5'10", is ideal for me, but may be frustrating for petite shoppers. I didn't even need the Tall length, the Regular hit just right for wearing with flats, sandals and sneakers. [Editor’s Note: Aritzia offers the style in petite sizing]

I wear these pants at least once a week, sometimes more, because they're just so easy to dress up or down depending on my schedule. I've worn them with blazers and button-ups for the office, feeling both comfortable and polished. I've also worn them with a cute crop top and sandals for a BBQ, and a plain cotton T-shirt and sneakers for traveling in style. I keep checking the Aritzia website to decide if I want another pair, but can never figure out exactly which color I want. Whatever I decide, I'll definitely be grabbing a low-rise pair next for a more casual vibe.

As for washing, I assumed these needed to be dry cleaned but upon checking the label just learned they're actually machine washable! They come back from the cleaners nicely pressed and looking/feeling great, so I'll likely keep doing that for the time being. I have yet to toss them in with the regular wash, but would definitely skip the dryer in favor of hanging or laying flat to dry to avoid any potential shrinkage. ” Abby Hepworth, fashion editor

“I’ve tried several pairs of classic black pants for work through the years, and they often feel more boring than timeless—usually because they never fit quite right. These, however, have the perfect fit and look immaculately tailored, which is why I tell everyone to ditch their other pairs and buy these as part of their work wardrobe. I’m 5'3" so I typically order the petite or short version of pants, but I heeded the advice of the Artizia staff and opted for the regular length of these. I totally recommend these pants if you’re going for a more contemporary, cool-girl look.” – Nicole Frazzini, audience development strategist

Aritzia effortless pant review: collag of wide leg pants

“I can't count the number of times I've worn my Effortless Pants. I actually have them in two sizes: my normal size for a higher-waist, more tailored fit, and one size up from my usual (my personal favorite pair) for a slouchy, cool-girl, lower-waist fit. They're so versatile; I've worn mine with skin-tight bodysuits, oversize T-shirts (half-tucked) and linen button-downs (fully tucked), plus just about every shoe in my closet, from Converse high-tops to Birkenstock Arizonas. I've also exclusively machine washed and dried them for literal years and have never had any issues with the quality. They're also my go-to travel pants; I've worn them on probably 80 percent of the flights I've taken in the past few years. I find that they're the perfect balance between comfortable and elevated (I've never been a sweatpants/leggings travel gal).”Sarah Stiefvater, wellness director
